Restless Leg Syndrome Support: You’re Not Alone, Support is Available.
Restless leg syndrome support is available from a number of sources. Although the exact causes may not yet have been proved conclusively and therefore there is no “cure” as such, enough is known about the condition to be able to alleviate the symptoms significantly.
There are a number of underlying causes that may bring on or aggravate the condition; therefore the first step is diagnosis by a physician or competent health practitioner. From then on, restless leg syndrome treatment can begin and any ‘lifestyle change’ support that may be helpful can be put in place.
Restless legs syndrome support may be available in the form of official organisations. (In the U.S. and Canada, there is the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation that offers information and support groups. There may be similar organisations in your country.) There are a number of interactive restless legs syndrome support groups listed on the internet. However, support is also available from any number of health practitioners.
Restless Legs Syndrome Support – A Change In Lifestyle
The underlying causes can be varied; therefore the most appropriate restless legs syndrome support for you – apart from an official organisation – may well depend on the diagnosis.
In some cases, existing medication may be the influencing factor – in which case, a physician would probably be the appropriate source of support; but there are other possible contributing factors.
A lack of iron in the brain may be a contributing factor. Caffeine, tobacco and alcohol may be other factors. Food could have an influence; for example having a reactive hypoglycaemia could increase the risk, so it may be necessary to follow some dietary changes, like eating smaller meals more frequently, or altering your sugar intake, eating more whole wheat foods, nuts, fish, vegetables, fresh fruit and so on. In these cases, restless legs syndrome support may be in the form of lifestyle trainers, dieticians or homeopaths.
Chiropractic may be another area of restless legs syndrome support. There are chiropractors that feel that RLS may be in part due to pelvic instability. (I have personally experienced the urge to massage the base of the spine during attacks of RLS, and found some relief in doing it; so I can certainly see that possibility!)
Acupuncture is another source of restless legs syndrome support. As it seems to be a neurological condition, the use of needles to stimulate or ‘tune down’ certain nerve ends, may provide a certain amount of relief in even one visit.
A substantial part of restless leg syndrome support would involve a degree of change in one’s lifestyle; but appropriate diagnosis would be the starting point.
