Easy Energy-Saving Tips

Posted by admin On April - 10 - 2009

If you own a home or rent an apartment, be sure to follow these low-cost, common sense measures to save money:

  1. Lower your thermostat at night and when you’re not at home.
  2. Close off rooms you aren’t using.
  3. Weatherstrip or caulk your windows and doors, or use draft stoppers.
  4. Keep blinds and drapes of sun-exposed windows open in the daytime and closed at night.
  5. Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.
  6. Move furniture, drapes and carpets away from baseboard heaters.
  7. Shop for the ENERGY STAR® symbol for energy efficiency when you are in the market for a major appliance.
  8. Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher’s drying cycle.
  9. Stop drafts — install foam gaskets behind electric outlets and switch plates on outer walls.
  10. When you’re done with the TV, computer, video game, radio or stereo, turn it off.
  11. Unplug chargers and laptop computers.
  12. Set your hot water heater at 120 degrees or less.
  13. Turn off the lights when you leave a room
